F is for Format

A to Z of Machine Embroidery and Quilting

F is for FormatThere are many different brands of embroidery machine – and nearly all brands have their own proprietary format for embroidery designs that can be stitched on machines of that brand.

Some of the most common embroidery machine formats are as follows:

  • ART, ART60, ART70, ART80: Works with the BERNINA embroidery software. The number following ART indicates the version of the software that the file was generated with
  • DST: Works with Tajima and most commercial machines
  • EXP: Works with BERNINA machines
  • HUS: Works with Husqvarna Viking machines
  • JEF: Works with Janome machines
  • PCS: Works with older Pfaff machines
  • PES: Works with Brother and Babylock machines
  • VP3: Works with Husqvarna embroidery design software and newer Pfaff machines
  • XXX: Works with Singer machines

All design collections from Sarah Vedeler Designs contain multiple formats and so can be used on most domestic brands of embroidery machine.

What I love about this collection… Beautiful things happen when you start overlapping circles and then color the intersections with gorgeous fabrics. Use patterned fabrics (so many opportunities to create secondary designs by fussy cutting) and the simple outline embroidery designs, or use solid colored fabrics with the more detailed version of the designs. Quilt it in the hoop – or not! Lots of options and 4 different sizes.
