Jasmine and I were out and about the other day and saw a Christmas wreath made out of ornaments. What could be more fun than making one for our new home?
If you want to make one too, here’s how to do it!
What you will need to make an Ornament Wreath:
- an 18″ diameter foam ring
- ribbon – 2″-3″ wide (a fairly large roll)
- ribbon – 0.5″ wide (about 12″)
- 60mm ornaments – my wreath used 42
- 40mm ornaments – my wreath used 40
- hot glue gun
Instructions
Lay the ring on your table.
Starting with the 60mm ornaments, place them around the ring to see how many will fit.
I have to say upfront that my version of this ornament wreath is one made by someone who can’t do random! If you look carefully, you can see the pattern that uses the 3 styles of ornament that came in the box – shiny, sparkly and matt.
Having figured out placement (or do it before!), cover the ring with ribbon.
Secure the end of the ribbon onto the foam ring using the hot glue gun. Wrap the ribbon around the ring, overlapping by about 1/4″ each time around. Secure the end using the hot glue gun – or a dab of Scotch® Magic™ tape.
Remove the hanging clip from each ornament and then secure each ornament to the ring using a dab of hot glue.
I butted the ornaments up against the ring with the top of the ornament facing towards the center of the wreath for the outside ornaments and towards the outside of the wreath for the inside ornaments.
When the glue is dry and the ornaments are all secure, flip the wreath over. You can see in the photo below that there’s a little gap between the two ornaments at the top of the wreath on both the inside and outside of the ring. Nominate this as the top of the wreath – the gap provides the perfect place for the bow and hanging loop.
Place a 40mm ornament in between each 60mm ornament as shown below. The top of each ornament should be pointing down, in the gap between the ornaments and the ring. Secure with a dab of hot glue.
Cut a good length of ribbon, wrap it around the top of the ring so that it falls in between the ornaments at the top of the ring, and tie a beautiful bow. Use the 12″ length of 0.5″ ribbon to create a hanging loop.
I used a command hook to hang the wreath on a door.
Enjoy the beauty of the Holiday season!
